INTRODUCTION
I often in companies, which run ask the simple question: “Why can not our act together Why Project Management routinely fail in our company?” I do not think that the overall performance of a company’s problems in Project Management to a particular tool or technique can be assigned (although some certainly do not help things). Instead, I think on it, how important a company considers Project Management to be based. If they believe it to be an important part of the company’s overall performance, there will be more successful as a company that considers it irrelevant. In other words, I Project management see it as an integral part of corporate culture.
Let ‘s look at the indicators of how a company values ââProject linebreak linebreak management: LINE BREAK LINEBREAK LINEBREAK LACK of knowledge – lack of staff just the basic knowledge of the mechanics of project management. I’m not in too many companies no longer a complete lack of knowledge in this regard run. The conceptual basis of the Project Management has for a number of years. There are a variety of training programs in Project Management, both at the college level and more commercial. There are also several Internet discussion groups and professional associations on this issue (eg, Project Management Institute of Newtown Square, PA). Rent or contracting people with absolutely no knowledge of basic project management concepts will always be a rarity. If a standard and consistent approach to Project Management is being developed by a company, it must be monitored regularly to ensure accuracy and consistency. It’s one thing to legislate, quite another to enforce it. Lack of consideration for the size and complexity of project management and the ATTACK IT IN PIECE MEAL – People seem to underestimate the extent of nature of project management. For example includes the configuration of the definition WBS structures and dependencies, which is a precursor to estimating, planning, reporting and control, estimation is a prerequisite for planning, reporting impacts project estimates and schedules, resource allocation based on the availability of qualified personnel (skills inventory) and current project plans, etc. There are an overwhelming number of software packages on the market attacking various aspects of project management, but very few addressing is an integrated whole.
It must be remembered that project management is primarily a philosophy of management, is not an elaborate set of tools and techniques, yet it is an administrative function. Rather it is concerned with the management of people to complete the work (there is a “people management” function). As such, project management is only as effective as the linebreak linebreak people use the it.
Ultimately, is the project management discipline, organization and accountability; the three areas of human natural aversion seem against this days.
DISCIPLINE have – in the Western world, people tend to to resist discipline because some believe it inhibits creativity and personal freedom. As a result, teamwork is often sacrificed in favor of the robust individualism.
ORGANIZATION – Pursuant to discipline is the problem of organization. Even in the Western world, people prefer to keep their own identity and organize to meet their needs in order to meet the needs of the organization. There are also those who say, “A cluttered desk is the sign of a brilliant mind.” Hogwash. In contrast, I am a believer of the Navy therapy, where you have either some work, file, or throw it away. This forces people to organize. If we need more files, let’s get to it. A cluttered desk is a sign of a disorganized person. Shape up or ship out.
Accountability – This is an area people tend to rebel against the linebreak linebreak most. The approach to the management of the project as “PRIDE,” ultimately represents visibility and responsibility to produce according to plan. Unfortunately, some people shy away from commitments and instead prefer to conceal their activities so that they can not be measured and evaluated. This is typically the response of people who are insecure. People who are confident in their abilities, have no problem with accountability issue.
REACTIVE VS. ACTIVE MANAGEMENT
The old adage: “If you do not make the decision, the decision can be made for you”, is valid. This sums up the difference between an active and a reactive manager. True Project Management requires an “active” managers, not “reactive.” The active manager takes care of problems before they occur. They are planning for the future. Occur, the reactive manager deals with yesterday and waits for problems, then they tried to take care of. Today more and more IT organizations find themselves in a constant “fire” mode. Why? By a “reactive” management style. The “reactive” manager never seems to come forward to, but probably enjoys the highest visibility in the community. Incidentally, beware of the “firefighters”, they are probably your chief arsonists.
Manager does not wait for things to happen, they make things MUCH happen.
HOW PROJECT MANAGEMENT is necessary?
Can be taken to the philosophies of project management and implemented by a single group of people for a single project? Yes. A department or group? Certainly. The entire company? In any case. In fact, as the volume increases, improved communication and philosophy is consistent applied.
The context of project management affects many people: prepare
The individual worker estimates and appointments, perform project work, and report on activities. The project managers plan and direct the use of resources on projects and problems to solve. Department heads will manage the resources and control projects in an area. The Board will establish priorities for project groups, and monitor project progress.
Obviously should, project management, not a handful of people or projects are limited. Dozens of projects active at any one time, where hundreds of workers across departmental boundaries. The synchronization of effort is required in order to maximize efficiency and minimize confusion. Project linebreak linebreak management should therefore be used as a management philosophy than a technique, in contrast with a chosen few to be considered. Only if a standard and consistent approach to project management of a company accepted it will become an integral part of corporate culture. We hear less about why Project Management fails, and more, as the company prospers.
